Behind the Scenes of Stone Manufacturing


The stone manufacturing industry is a fascinating blend of art, craftsmanship, and technology that has evolved over centuries. The Quarry: Extraction Begins


Stone manufacturing starts in the quarry, where raw stone is extracted from the earth. The next phase involves cutting the stone into slabs or tiles. High-tech saws, including gang saws and block cutters, are employed to slice the stone into thinner pieces. This process requires high precision to ensure that each slab has a consistent thickness, which is vital for installation, whether it’s for countertops, flooring, or exterior cladding.


Polishing is another critical stage in stone processing. After cutting, slabs often have a rough surface that needs to be smoothed out and polished to enhance their natural beauty. This polishing process can involve several steps, using increasingly finer abrasives to achieve a high-gloss finish. The choice of finishing depends on the end use of the stone; for example, a honed finish has a matte appearance, while a polished finish reflects light, enhancing the stone's color and pattern.
